James Harrison’s greatest Steelers moment

Although some Steelers fans have already started burning their James Harrison jerseys after the linebacker was released by the team and chose to sign with the Patriots – Harrison will be fondly remembered as the heart of the Steelers defense for years. Harrison, a Steeler for 14 seasons, was instrumental in helping the Steelers win Super Bowl XLII and earning his second ring in Pittsburgh.

Just before halftime, with the Arizona Cardinals trailing the Steelers 10-7, Kurt Warner had his offense on the Steelers’ 2-yard line on first and goal. The Steelers brought a blitz, and Warner, out of the shotgun, tried to find Anquan Boldin in the endzone – only for Harrison to pick off the pass at the goal line.

With some help from a convoy of blockers, Harrison weaved his way 100 yards for a touchdown, which was the longest touchdown play in Super Bowl history until Jacoby Jones broke the record in Super Bowl XLVII.

Steve Breaston and Larry Fitzgerald were finally able to pull Harrison down at the goal line, but he had crossed the plane for an unforgettable touchdown. Harrison remained on the ground while the play was reviewed, and needed an oxygen mask after his incredible run.

Warner broke down the play a few years ago after Malcolm Butler’s Super Bowl-saving interception in the endzone.

Via SB Nation:.

“If you look at James Harrison, he’s actually supposed to blitz on that play. So he starts his blitz, gets picked up and ends up falling off to make the interception,” Warner said. “Otherwise it’s a walk-in touchdown for Anquan on that play.

…. Based on the coverage on the outside, we have a walk-in touchdown is what I’m saying, and James Harrison comes from the inside to make the interception.”.
