Historians draw parallels between ‘Don’t Say Gay’ legislation and purge of gay teachers decades ago

Well past dark in the Florida Senate Chamber, Sen. Tina Polsky had a final question for the sponsor of one of the most controversial bills from this year’s legislative session.

“What I heard you say, just to confirm, there seems to be a big uptick in the number of children who are coming out as gay or experimenting, and therefore we need to not discuss it in the younger grades?” Polsky, a Democrat from Boca Raton, asked during the March 7 meeting. “Is that correct?”.
